(PRESTIGE CLASS)

The Duelist is a nimble, intelligent fighter trained in making precise attacks with light weapons, such as the rapier. Also known as the swashbuckler, the Duelist always takes full advantage of his quick reflexes and wits in a fight. Rather than wearing bulky armor, Duelists feel that the best way to protect themselves is to not get hit at all.

- Hit Die: d10

- Proficiencies: A Duelist is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, but does not gain any armor or shield proficiencies.

- Skill Points: 4 + Int Modifier.

- Attack Base: High.


REQUIREMENTS:

Base Attack Bonus: +6

Feats: Dodge, Weapon Finesse, Mobility.

Skills: Tumble 5 ranks. Parry 5 ranks.


ABILITIES:

Level

1: Canny Defence - AC bonus based on intelligence bonus, limited by class level. Works as shield ac.

2: Thug - +2 initiative, +2 Persuade

3: Spring Attack - No longer incurs Attacks of Opportunity for moving in combat.

4: Grace - +2 Bonus to reflex saves.

5: Precise Strike +1d4 - Bonus damage while wielding a light piercing weapon.

7: Elaborate Parry - Add class level to Parry skill.

8: Improved Initiative

9: Deflect Arrows

10: Precise Strike +2d4


Class Skills: Bluff, Craft Armour/Weapon, Discipline, Listen, Parry, Spot, Taunt, Tumble.


NOTES:

Duelist loses Canny Defense, Precise Strike, Grace and Elaborate Parry while wearing any armor or shield. Should the effects of these abilities go wrong, reequiping an item will cause it to recalculate them.

Rapiers can be a bit confusing. For a medium sized creature (Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halforc) a rapier is counted as "light" for the purpose of Weapon Finnesse, but not for the purposes of Two-weapon Fighting. For the purposes of Precise Strike, they do count as light.



Epic Duelist:

You have become the epitome of graceful, precise lethality. In your hands, a light piercing weapon transforms into a glittering blur of razor sharp steel able to turn any blow and strike past any defense.

- Hit Die: d10

- Skill Points: 4 + Int Modifier.


Bonus Feats: The epic Duelist gains a bonus feat every three levels.


Special:

Precise Strike: Increases to 2d6 at level 15, 2d8 at level 20, 2d10 at level 25 and 2d12 at level 30.

Blinding Speed, Epic Prowess, Epic Reputation, Epic Skill Focus, Epic Weapon Focus, Epic Reflexes, Improved Whirlwind, Superior Initiative, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Great Dexterity


Class abilities:

Canny Defence:

Type of Feat: Class Specific

Prerequisite: Duelist Level 1

Specifics: May add their intelligence bonus to AC, as shield modifier. Capped by Duelist level. This ability does not function while wearing armor or shield.

Note: Stacks with Two Weapon Defense, Improved Two Weapon Defence, and Epic Two Weapon Defense

Use: Automatic.


Grace:

Type of Feat: Class Specific

Prerequisite: Duelist Level 4

Specifics: The Duelist gains a +2 bonus to reflex saving throws. This ability does not function while wearing armor.

Use: Automatic.


Precise Strike:

Type of Feat: Class Specific

Prerequisite: Duelist Level 5

Specifics: The Duelist adds +1d4 bonus damage to any light piercing weapon. Increases to 2d4 at level 10. Increases to 2d6 at level 15, 2d8 at level 20, 2d10 at level 25 and 2d12 at level 30.

Use: Automatic.


Elaborate Parry:

Type of Feat: Class Specific

Prerequisite: Duelist Level 7

Specifics: The character gains a bonus to their parry skill equal to their duelist level.

Use: Automatic
