Monster Skin PCs

Here in the ALOE NWN module, we value the art of roleplaying very highly. As such, we provide a wide range of "monster skins" that players can use to assist them in building an even stronger gaming experience. These monster skins are totally cosmetic, there is no alteration to abilities, feats or statistics - with the possible exception that some monsters are slower than standard PCs (e.g. zombies and mummies come to mind).

Upon creating an application, a DM will make sure it fits to the rules and then go through with you on the character you wish to make, how it works within the roleplaying environment you'll be entering (e.g. how does your kobold wish to fit into society?), and then skin the new character in game with you.

Approval Conditions

  • After the monster has been created, you are expected to role play the character as much as possible.
  • You must have a previous 35th level character. You will be asked before the new character is skinned to produce the existing character.
  • All skinned characters must start as newly created (except for the Hound Archon).
  • Each skin has its own set of class requirements. Any character found in game outside of these requirements will be:
  1. not approved; or
  2. de-levelled until the illegal class is removed (1st Chance); or
  3. removed from game (2nd Chance)
  • Some skins require a specific gender, which ties into having the correct gender and voiceset on character creation.
  • Each submission is restricted to standard NWN rules, (e.g. Arcane Archers must be Elven or Half-Elven).
  • Large creature skins (e.g. wemics, driders) can use two-handed weapons as single-handed weapons. We allow the use of spear and shield alone for these models. Any PC found to do otherwise will automatically be disapproved from Edon.
  • A descriptive Bio should be written up on character creation.

Factions

There are three factions to choose from and the available skins are divided into these three factions. This means no wraiths walking the halls of Helios, for example.

  1. Surfacer based skinned characters.
  2. Monsters aligned with Drow (as rothes/slaves only).
  3. Undead based skinned characters.

Application Process

Simply scroll down through the list, and select a skin that fits into the roleplaying concept you have. From there, create a new post here, and then copy and paste the following template into your new post:

Player Account:
PC Name:
Race:
Skin:
Class:
Gender:
Faction:
Deity:

Backstory:

Fill in all the blanks and add the codeword Margosh Glarfin ain't my friend.

If the application is not filled out correctly, the post will be returned to you via Private Message along with the reason for such (and the original will be removed from the forum). Typical reasons for removal include not filling in areas, deleting areas, or making an illegal build for the skin.

Once your request has been approved, you may create your character then click on Play and you should appear in the gateway. DO NOT LEAVE THE GATEWAY! Flag the attention of a DM on the DM channel, or on the ALOE IRC channel and he/she will come and check that your character is the same classes and bio entered that has been approved. Don't copy the entire bio from your application into your character's bio, no one will read it. Just a short paragraph that is consistent with the bio in your application is fine. The DM will then change your appearance and faction as required. If a DM is not available do not proceed. Save and log off and wait for another time.

We cannot change portraits or voicesets, so you will need to pick carefully and choose the appropriate portrait/voiceset when creating your character.

Roleplaying

Remember, playing a monster character is about roleplaying and roleplaying alone. Monster PCs add a lot of flavour to the game, and in many ways, a monster PC is an ambassador of roleplaying within Edon. Hence if you are found to be OOC you will receive a warning and a second occurrence will result in forfeiture of your monster character. THIS MEANS DISAPPROVED AND LOST!

Epic Monster Skins

To increase the diversity of roleplay, I have introduced a new range of Monster skins. These skins are here to provide enjoyment to you and your gameplay, they are not here to be exploited or abused. These skins are very special; as such, they are taken VERY seriously.

A new age of technology and magic has been born.

The Golem

Special Circumstance

1. The golem character must be bound to another player’s character, reflecting the fact that the golem has a purpose, a reason for being, and an owner.

2. The player must have a Gnomish Construct Summoner that they hand in as payment for the skin.

3. The weapons used by the Golem are restricted to bludgeoning types.

4. Instead of a level 35 character, you are required to have a previous level 40 character.

Roleplay

As this is an EPIC Monster Application, you are required to show exemplary RP skills. Excessive OOC as your golem character will result in a warning and inevitably, disapproval if continued.

Golems are vulnerable to outcasting; in the event that a golem attempts to go 'solo' they will be outcast and labelled as 'malfunctioning'. The likely hood of redeeming your golems state of functionality is slim.

Biography

Your Biography is expected to be well written. Detail is a must, find a RP explanation for everything. (e.g. Speed enhancers for monk levels). EPIC monster applications are above normal standards, you must put time into your golem.

Note: Golems are NOT permitted to dual wield large weapons nor use a shield with a large weapon. Any player caught breaching this will get NO warning; Your golem will have a disapproval token attached and your Construct Summoner will NOT be returned.

By applying for a golem you accept these terms.
